Winter in Rocky Mountain National Park

Winter itinerary

Estes Park Winter Activities

Though you’ll often see snow-capped mountains in summer, there’s something extra special about the snowy views Estes Park is home to in the winter. If you’re hoping for a winter wonderland experience in Estes Park but not sure what activities to incorporate into your vacation planning, read through our winter itinerary for some ideas!

Friday

Arrive in Estes Park and pick up your keys to your cabin. These rustic cabins are the perfect spot to spend a snowy evening with some hot chocolate, warm desserts, or cuddled up in front of the fire!

We recommend stopping by one of the grocery stores in town to pick up dinner and dessert supplies to make a nice homemade meal and enjoy the unbeatable views after a long day of traveling. If you’d prefer to let someone else handle the cooking, head out into town and visit one of our local restaurants.

Before you fall asleep in the cozy and warm main room, head up to bed at a decent hour to prepare for your first day of Estes Park fun!

Saturday

Rise and shine! Time to head out for a snowshoeing adventure in the Rockies! If you know you’ll want to snowshoe every day, we offer snowshoe rental for only $2.50 a day! Call to reserve your snowshoes in advance. You can either take a guided snowshoe tour or a self-guided trip up in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Next, head over to the Estes Park Brewery for specialty brews and good food. You can either sip and savor your beer near their scenic overlook, or take your brew on the move to the pool table, video games, or take a look at the 200 foot mural!

After an afternoon at the brewery, it’s time to pick up some souvenirs and sweets by visiting the shops downtown. We have a variety of shopping options though our favorites may be visiting the taffy, fudge, and candy shops! How could you possibly say no to a fresh, warm cookie on a cold winter’s day?

Head back to your cabin, drop off your shopping bags and get in your swimsuit for a dip in your own on-site hot tub (outside of select cabins)! Let the water soothe out your leg muscles from your morning excursion before heading up to bed.

Sunday

Head over to The Rock Inn for their Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Get your fill of biscuits and gravy, the breakfast burrito, the ham, apple, and brie frittata or whatever delicious menu item catches your eye!

Let your breakfast settle a bit before renting a sled and driving over to Hidden Valley for some old-fashioned sledding! Be sure to pack mittens, a hat, and good snow boots for this activity! If you feel like being a bit more active, you can also enjoy ice skating outdoors at the YMCA.

At night, experience a different kind of chill and learn about Estes Park’s permanent residents during a Ghost Tour at The Stanley Hotel! You may wish to stop for a night cap at the Cascades Whiskey Bar or to calm those jittering nerves.

We promise the ghosts will not follow you back to your cabin so you can get a night of restful sleep.

Monday

Snap some last photos of the snowy mountains as you pack up your bags and get ready to head home! We’ll make your check-out process smooth and easy so you can get on the road at a decent time.
