Sledding in Estes Park

Estes Park is a winter wonderland of fun for outdoor enthusiasts who are brave enough to battle the snow; whether they want to explore the park by foot with a snowshoe tour or with good old-fashioned ice skating! But, if you’re looking for a snowy day activity everyone in the family can enjoy, then add sledding to your travel itinerary!

A popular spot for sledding in Estes Park is over at Hidden Valley in Rocky Mountain National Park due to its on-site facilities such as the picnic pavilion, restrooms, and a winter warming room for some breaks from rushing down the hill. Hidden Valley is the only sledding area within the park and was a former skiing hill. Skis and snowboards without bindings are still allowed in this area as well but most people bring sleds or tubes.

The sledding area opens as soon as there’s enough snow-pack to cover the ground and generally closes in late April, but can close sooner if the snow isn’t falling. There used to be a sledding and snow play area near Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, but that has been closed to keep park visitors safe, so please plan to visit Hidden Valley or visit the YMCA of the Rockies sledding and tubing hill.

For only $3 per day, guests of Valhalla Resort can rent sleds from our front office.

Hopefully, you booked one of our cabin rentals that include a Jacuzzi or hot tub to warm up and relax after a fun day of sledding with the family.
